Shaheer says he is often so fortunate to discover rare sightings-which is like a blessing.

While donning the cap of the police, Shaheer Perumanna is a member of Kozhikode City Crime Squad, busy chasing robbers and catching drug dealers. But when he takes up camera, he chases birds and animals and captures stunning stills of the wilderness. In and outside Kerala, Shaheer has seen the jungles through his lens in ways we have never seen and captured fascinating visuals of the jungle. His Instagram page is a wonderful display of his love for nature and wildlife photography.

“I was drawn to nature when I was a member of an environmental club in my high school years”- says Shaheer. From there, a strong desire to open the eyes of the camera to the sights of nature started obsessing him. He soon acquired a camera and started clicking. In between, he secured a job in Kerala Police Department in 2010 and was appointed in Farok Police Station. His passion for photography never faded even when he started the service. He managed to find time between his hectic work and went to the wild with his Nikon D-500.

Shaheer’s photos from Muthanga, Vanaparvam, Kalpally, Nelliyampathy, etc. have become a sensation on social media already. He also participated in the bird census conducted by the forest department as well. Shaheer found Panamkakka (Indian Roller) - the official bird of Karnataka, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh, in Mavoor Kalpally. Shaheer says he is often so fortunate to discover rare sightings-which is like a blessing, considering the indefinite amount of time a wildlife photographer has to devote to find rare discoveries.

He says such events have been plenty and thinks he is really blessed. Shaheer is currently working at the Pantheerankavu Police Station. He gets immense support and encouragement from his wife Farzana and son Muhammed Sayan. Shaheer’s dream is to capture a Black Panther on his camera. He waited three days in a row last time when he got a chance to go to the wild but the Panther is yet to show up-as a blessing. Shaheer is waiting. He believes that during his next visit to the Jungle she will turn up for their first rendezvous.
