Ambalavayal: A pregnant woman had to walk two km suffering labour pain along a dilapidated road before giving birth to a baby boy at a bus shelter. It was Divya of Palakkattukunnu colony who had to face the ordeal. She even had to cover 25 steps along the path leading to the road.

Though the help of several people was sought, nobody came forward to bring a vehicle to take Divya to hospital.

Divya (24), wife of Anoop, gave birth to their third child at the Vazhavatta bus stop. She was later shifted to Kalpetta General Hospital.

Divya’s mother Kalyani said that the pregnant woman had visited the Kalpetta hospital the day before. That time too she had walked all the way to the bus shelter. Later, when they reached their house, she felt severe labour pain. But no vehicle, including auto-rickshaw, was willing to come to her house. Left with no other option, Divya again started walking to go to the hospital, when she delivered the child at the bus stop.

Residents said that travelling along the road has become impossible as it is totally damaged and that no vehicles come that way.
