This teacher brings the snow-capped mountains of Himalayas to her classrooms
Deepa, who has visited the Himalayas thrice, make it a point that her students too get a feel of the mountain ranges through her narrations.

Malappuram: More than the poetic prowess of Robert Frost and the witty imaginations of RK Narayan, NP Deepa's English classes at Irumbuzhi Govt HSS are filled with the thrilling stories from the snow-capped Himalayas. Deepa, who has visited the Himalayas thrice, make it a point that her students too get a feel of the mountain ranges through her narrations.

The teacher says that her students were particularly excited to listen to her trekking experiences at Stok Kangri, the highest trekking point in India, which is 21,187 feet above the sea level. Deepa believes that her classrooms shouldn't be spaces where mere information from the text books is passed on to the students. Instead she intends it to be creative spaces where the students' imagination is sparked by sharing her travelling experiences. An avid travel enthusiast, Deepa has already visited the enchanting Himalayas, beautiful Kashmir valley and the exciting Western Ghats.

Deepa often lets her students accompany her for many trips. She usually chooses holidays to set out on her journeys and travels.

Deepa, who has already been to all the major trekking points in Kerala, sees every trip as a new lesson in life. Instead of taking the students for field trips, Deepa makes her classroom itself a destination where the snow-covered Himalayan peaks, the rare flora and fauna of the Western Ghats and the scintillating beauty of Kashmir take life.

“Nature is the biggest classroom in the world, and journeys are the perfect textbooks to know and understand it,” says Deepa teacher with a smile.
