Bindu has an elder brother Biju who is differently abled, and her younger brother Binu has dropped out of school owing to the financial constraints of the family. Her father is too ill to work and the family survives on the meagre income earned by Bindu's mother Sharada who works as a labourer.

Malayala Manorama published Bindu's story in its Yuva page and the Satya Sai Trust helped her to complete her studies at the IIT. She is now awaiting the results of the UGC NET examination.
