Bindu Kannan, an adivasi woman who completed her post graduation from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, dreams of pursuing a PhD. However, she is being held back because of poor conditions at her home. The young woman who lives at the Cherumbathattu colony in Kallar panchayat, Kasargod wishes to make her community proud by aiming greater heights in academics.
Her house is situated on top of a hill and there aren't any transportation facilities to reach there. The road to her place has been completely damaged making it extremely difficult even to walk through it. Bindu has an elder brother Biju who is differently abled, and her younger brother Binu has dropped out of school owing to the financial constraints of the family. Her father is too ill to work and the family survives on the meagre income earned by Bindu's mother Sharada who works as a labourer.
After completing her degree course from Rajapuram Pious Tenth College, Bindu got admitted at the IIT Chennai for the MSc physics degree. Malayala Manorama published Bindu's story in its Yuva page and the Satya Sai Trust helped her to complete her studies at the IIT. She is now awaiting the results of the UGC NET examination.
Bindu is confident that she would secure an admission for research at a foreign university if she is financially helped. Though life has thrown many a curveball at her, Bindu is hopeful to take on life with confidence and perseverance.
