Kannur: The Kudumbashree mission is eagerly waiting for the first flight to land at the Kannur International Airport which reportedly will begin its commercial operations soon. The Kudumbashree which runs successful ventures at the various stations of the Kochi metro would submit projects to the government, which envisions such enterprises at the new airport as well.
As per the proposed project, the service of Kudumbashree could be availed in the house keeping, parking, running cafes and cafeteria, help desk, and gardening.
Though tenders from around the globe would be invited for allotting such contracts as it is an international airport, the Kudumbashree mission hopes that their project would be accepted as the state government has a major share in the airport.
Around 680 women who are members of the Kudumbashree are working at metro railway stations in Kochi. As per the contract signed between Kudumbasree and the Kochi metro MD, Kudumbashree women are hired for ticketing, help desk, customer relation, housekeeping and gardening.
Besides, employment opportunities are reserved for those who have a cancer patient at home, people who were displaced for the metro project and survivors of various attacks as well. The Kudumbashree has recently won awards for their excellent performances during the past one year, from the KMRL and the Kerala Management Association. Kudumbashree Mission executive director S Harikishore said that the mission hopes to repeat such success at the Kannur airport as well, if their project gets through.
They would present a proposal to the airport officials through the state government about the various ways in which the service of the Kudumbashree can be utilised. However, the contracts to run the cafeteria and gardening have already been allotted to other private companies after inviting tender. The Kannur International Airport would be inaugurated on December 9.
