Imagine you are walking late in the night trying to get home. You find yourself confronted with someone who might cause you harm. Here’s why women need to be equipped to defend themselves against an attacker. You might not be best at this but learning a few basic self-defence techniques would buy you enough time to get away to safety.

In a country like India where the cases of violence against women are on the rise, learning self-defence skills has become a necessity. Rape, sexual harassment, and molestation are common in India now and therefore it has become important to equip women to retaliate when confronted. Learning the art of self-defence will also build confidence in women and empowers them to be more than what they think.

Onmanorama Women gives you four basic self-defence moves every woman should know and practice. Remember, say out ‘NO’ when need be and be confident.

The first way to defend yourself is to say 'NO.' If the person still continues his act, take a step forward. Using your one hand, strike him first on his chest, then on the groin and finally push him away by striking on his chin.

In a lift

Using both your hands, strike on the attacker's temples. Keep both your hands on the attacker's shoulder. Use the leg that is closest to the attacker and knee kick to the body or higher.
