Kochi: Rada runs around in Indira Gandhi International Airport, IGIA, in Delhi, answering hunderds of questions that travellers are asking. It plays with children, reads out news to those who seek it.

Rada joined duties at IGIA Terminal 3 Lounge the other day. Vistara, the Tata Sons-Singapore Airlines joint venture, inspired the first airline robot in India. And it was made entirely in Kerala.

Rada was born at the TCS Lab at Thiruvananthapuram. Working on artificial intelligence, it listens and understands, and responds.

Rada reaches those who seek it through pre-determined routes and with the help of sensors. Three cameras assist in accurate communication.

Rada was shaped and finished entirely at the Thiruvananthapuram lab within a period of six months. The intelligence coding was also done at the Innovation Lab there.

Young engineers and experts led the effort. In the next stage, Rada is expected provide several services, including fetching a wheelchair, collecting baggage, and assisting senior citizens inside the airport.

Scanning boarding passes – it provides necessary instructions. Rada will tell you about the weather at your destination.

Answering doubts – Rada can run around and answer doubts raised by passengers at the airport. Ask a doubt, and it will answer in English accurately after grapsing.

For fun – Rada is also ready for fun. Children can play a video game. It will also play a favorite song. If you need news, Rada will read out for you. It will also play videos.

Flight status – Rada will keep you updated on flight timings, besides details on departure gates.
