The Classic 500 Pegasus from Royal Enfield began online bookings on Thursday and the limited edition bike was sold out within 178 seconds.

The company made only 1,000 units of the Pegasus and the 250 allotted for India were priced at around Rs 2.5 lakh.

The Pegasus is based on the RE/WD 125, a World War II veteran, popularly known as the Flying Flea. The resilient 125 cc motorcycles were deployed behind enemy lines via parachutes to provide communications support.

The Pegasus Classic 500 cc version carries the original insignia of the Airborne Forces that rode the Flying Flea and a pair of canvas saddle-bags.

Each unit of the Pegasus has a unique serial number stencilled on the fuel tank.
