The recent Supreme Court order against modified vehicles came as a big damper for auto enthusiasts. After the ruling, the fate of modified vehicles that are used on road and off road literally hit a rough patch. However, this modified Thar is fully legal and can't be confiscated by the cops or the motor vehicles department. Because, this is Mahindra's own custom modification. Mahindra had displayed this vehicle for the first time at the last auto show in New Delhi.

According to the law, only carmakers have the right to carry out modifications and Mahindra Wanderlust Edition is one such vehicle. The starting cost of this drool-worthy modification kit is around Rs 14 lakh. Mahindra engineers haven't done much changes to the stock underpinnings of a Mahindra Thar 4x4. But it has most of the accessories needed for off-roading such as 35-inch off-road tyres sitting on wider 16-inch rims, snorkel and suspension.

In the front, the trademark grille from Thar is retained. Then there is the custom front bumper, heavy duty electric winch, sculpted bonnet along with butch fenders, headlamps with daytime running lamps, and fog lamps. The full-size spare wheel mounted on the back and tail-lamp give it a sporty look. The Wanderlust gets gullwing-style rear doors for access to the rear seats. The dashboard is in dual tone. The front seats are two leather-clad racing seats from Sparco with five-point safety belts and an electric sunroof, besides an infotainment system.
