Kochi: Flydubai will launch cargo services from Cochin International Airport on October 25, initially operating one flight a week on the Dubai–Kochi–Dubai route using a Boeing 737 freighter.

Flydubai recently launched its cargo operations and currently operates three freighter aircraft leased from SolitAir. Each aircraft can carry up to 23 tonnes of cargo.

Flydubai will be the third airline to operate cargo services from Kochi. IndiGo and National Airlines are already operating cargo flights from the airport.

Cochin International Airport is gearing up to emerge as a major air cargo hub in Kerala. With the expansion of its cargo terminals completed, the airport can now handle up to 100,000 metric tonnes of imports and 125,000 metric tonnes of exports annually.

During the last financial year, the airport handled 72,178 tonnes of cargo, accounting for around 60 per cent of Kerala's total air cargo volume.
