Coimbatore: A college girl died after a mock drill went horribly wrong at a private college in Coimbatore. The horrifying incident happened at Kovai Kalaimagal College of Arts and Science in Narasipuram, Coimabtore, on Thursday.

Logeswari was a second year BBA student.

The tragedy happened when a trainer at the college persuaded the 19-year-old student to jump off the sunshade. A group of girl holding on to a net was standing on the ground. However, she sustained fatal injuries as her head hit the sunshade while jumping off the building, a national daily reported on Friday. Though Logeswari was rushed to the hospital, she was declared brought dead. Authorities have ordered a probe into the incident.

College trainer Arumughan (45) has been arrested by the Coimbatore city police.

In 2012, a 23-year-old woman had died during mock safety drill conducted by the fire and emergency services department in Bangalore. The shocking incident happened when the rope she was using to come down from the third floor of the factory building snapped.

In Kerala, a 53-year-old police official had died during another mock drill when he was crushed between a wall and a fire engine on the eve of Republic Day in 2011.
