Shweta Bachchan Nanda's father-in-law Rajan Nanda passed away at 76 after a brief illness, a statement said here on Monday.

Amitabh Bachchan took to Twitter to thank his fans who offered their condolences.

Rajan Nanda is survived by wife and children Nikhil and Natasha Nanda. Shweta is married to Nikhil. Shweta and Nikhil have a daughter Navya and son Agastya. Nikhil is the managing director of Escorts Ltd.

The family is also related to the Kapoors as Rajan Nanda was married to Ritu Nanda Kapoor, the eldest daughter of actor Raj Kapoor.

Actor Ranbir Kapoor's sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahani took to Instagram to confirm the news of the demise of her 'uncle Rajan.'

"You were are & will always be a legend! Thank you for all the love always - will miss you so much uncle - until we meet again RIP uncle Rajan," she wrote [sic].
