Kochi: The Left Democratic Front has probably zeroed in on its candidates for Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam Lok Sabha seats in Kerala though the CPM state secretariat was reportedly indecisive in shortlisting the names for these seats which are currently held by Congress. Aranmula legislator Veena George could contest from the crucial Pathanamthitta seat and former CPM MP P Rajeev may enter the fray from the Ernakulam constituency as the respective party local committees have proposed their names.

As proposed on Tuesday, V Abdurahiman, LDF's independent MLA from Tanur, might contest from the IUML bastion Ponnani. A Pradeep Kumar and Muhammed Riyas will likely contest for the CPM from Kozhikode and Vadakara seats in north Kerala, respectively. CPM veteran P Jayarajan is also a  probability from Vadakara.

Kollam and Kasaragod constituencies may see KN Balagopal and KP Sateesh Chandran contest for the CPM.

Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha Constituency

Fielding LDF-backed independent candidate Innocent in Chalakudy is unlikely if the CPM leadership goes by the feedback of its local unit in this constituency. The Chalakudy unit of the CPM has conveyed to party top brass that the cine actor has bleak chances to retain his seat he had won in 2014.

However, no decision has been taken on the proposed surprise candidacy of Dr Sindhumol Jacob from Kottayam as CPM is in favour of fielding district secretary VN Vasavan, though latest reports says he is unwilling to contest in the UDF bastion. However, the leadership is unlikely to give in to his wish.

Another LDF probable in Kottayam constituency could be Kerala Congress veteran PJ Joseph if he chooses to switch allegiance over rift in the party.

Constituency committees will be updated about candidate picks in real time. All six sitting CPM MPs are likely to contest.

The CPM is learnt to have officially told other allies that no partner except CPI will be contesting this time.
