Thiruvananthapuram: Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot said that the upcoming Lok Sabha polls will be fought on two key issues – agrarian distress and absolute joblessness. Pilot blamed the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre for both these problems.
Across India, agriculture is not sustainable, Pilot said, adding that giving Rs 6,000 each to agrarian families was not a solution. He was referring to the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman scheme launched recently. “Unfortunately the PM is coming up with such solutions (three installments of Rs 2,000). What happened to your muscular policy making when it comes to farm sector,” the Congress leader, who was speaking at a leadership conclave organised by the All India Professionals' Congress (AIPC) here on Wednesday.
Pilot called for longterm solutions to tackle the agrarian crisis in the country.

He said there needs a course correction when it comes to job creation. “Job creation cannot happen in isolation. Policymakers should have the passion to tackle the crisis,” he said.
He exuded confidence that a new UPA government will come to power after the general elections and it will be able to solve both agrarian distress as well as unemployment.

Pilot said the present NDA government believes in rhetoric and propaganda even as it moves away from ground realities. He cited the speeches of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the election campaign in Rajasthan where he spoke on Lord Hanuman's caste.
Thiruvananthapuram MP and AIPC chairman Shashi Tharoor shared the stage with Pilot while AIPC state president Mathew Kuzhalnadan moderated the session.
The discussion touched upon a various topics such as education, employment and aggressive nationalism.
Calling for a more qualitative education model, Pilot said education is an investment in present and the future.

Adding to what Pilot said, Tharoor said, “we need to focus much more in the school education while we need to add the employability factor at the college level.”
On the recent terrorist attack at Pulwama and the ensuing air strike in Balakot, Tharoor said there was blatant politicisation of national security and foreign policy by the present regime.
The AIPC, the Congress' wing of professionals from various fields, has been organising similar programmes ever since its inception in 2017.
