New Delhi: Even as the exit polls predict a clear majority for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Lok Sabha polls, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) continued its efforts to bring together all the opposition parties.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held discussions with Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and NCP president Sharad Pawar.

Meanwhile, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has tasked DMK chief MK Stalin to bring Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TSR) and YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh into the UPA fold, it was said.

Though TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao is keen on the formation of a federal front, Stalin is likely to urge him to back the Congress and help form an anti-BJP government.

Stalin had already proclaimed that Rahul Gandhi was the prime ministerial candidate even before the LS polls.

Nadiu had been in the forefront of holding talks with various opposition parties for the past few months.

Apart from Congress and Left leaders, Naidu had also held talks with Mamata Banerjee of Trinamool Congress, Mayawati of Bahujan Samaj Party and Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party. In the past elections too, Naidu had tried to bring together the opposition parties.

However, if the TDP suffers a setback in the LS polls, Naidu could pull back from his efforts, sources said.

If no party or front fails to win a clear majority, it is up to the President to take a decision on which all parties should be called to form the government.

Naidu has been holding talks so that the opposition parties can form a government in such an event.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had reiterated her support to the opposition front on Sunday as well after the exit polls were out.
