A Kerala resident, Vijay Kumar, was arrested by Mirzapur police in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday for his involvement in an alleged illegal religious conversion case, reported PTI. The arrest follows an investigation initiated on June 22, with two other individuals taken into custody on June 23.
Circle Officer Vivek Jawla said that the case was based on allegations of coercive religious conversions, where Kumar, claiming to be a 'father,' reportedly used inducements such as money, jobs, and promises of good health to influence the conversion of a family. The police have filed charges under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.
