Former CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy passes away

Senior CPI leader and the party's former national general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy passed away on Friday night. He was 83. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad.
Sudhakar Reddy served as the CPI national general secretary for 7 years from 2012 to 2019. He was also elected to the Lok Sabha twice from the Nalgonda constituency of Telangana.
He was born in the Mahabubnagar district of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Reddy began his political career through AISF. He was elected twice as AISF general secretary and later became AIYF president. He went on to serve as assistant secretary and later as secretary of the CPI Andhra Pradesh state unit.
In March 2012, he was elected the party’s general secretary and held the post till 2019, when he resigned following the Lok Sabha polls.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, his cabinet colleagues, BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and several other leaders condoled the demise of Sudhakar Reddy.
Reddy had played a key role in Left politics at the national level and in a number of people's struggles, the chief minister said in a condolence message.
