At least ten people were killed and three remain missing after a landslide and a cloudburst struck Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi and Ramban districts following heavy overnight rain, officials confirmed on Saturday.
In Reasi district, seven members of a family lost their lives when a landslide flattened their home in Mahore’s Baddar village, reported IANS. The deceased were identified as Nazir Ahmed(38), his wife Wazira Begum(35), and their five children aged between five and thirteen. The incident occurred after torrential rain triggered a massive landslide that destroyed the temporary structure in which they had been living.
In Ramban’s Rajgarh area, three people were killed in a cloudburst. Search operations are continuing for three others who remain unaccounted for. Authorities reported that several houses were damaged or washed away in the floods. Relief and rescue teams have been deployed and temporary shelters have been established to provide food, water, and medical aid to displaced families. Additional rescue forces are on standby as water levels in rivers and streams continue to rise.
Officials said more than 46 people have died in Jammu and Kashmir this month in rain-related incidents, including flash floods and landslides. Reasi and Doda districts alone have recorded at least 16 deaths.
Districts such as Jammu, Samba and Kathua have also reported severe damage to homes, roads and other infrastructure.
