The Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has served a notice to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar in connection with the National Herald investigation.

The communication, sent from the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police and signed by Inspector Ramkesh, directs Shivakumar to appear for questioning in Delhi on or before December 19.

According to officials, investigators believe Shivakumar possesses crucial information related to the case, prompting the issuance of the notice.

As part of the probe into the financial transactions linked to the National Herald matter, the EOW has asked Shivakumar to provide comprehensive details of monetary contributions and transfers made to Young Indian (YI) by him, his associates, or any related firms or entities.

The notice also seeks an explanation regarding the purpose behind the bank transfers to Young Indian, along with “details of communication in black and white, electronic, emails between him and Young Indian or any other person/stakeholders related to AICC or otherwise.”

Further queries include clarifying at whose request Shivakumar or his associated organisations made payments categorised as donations, as well as identifying the source of the funds used.

Shivakumar is also considered to hold relevant insights tied to the FIR filed on October 3 against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Both Shivakumar and his brother D.K. Suresh had earlier donated ₹2.5 crore personally to Young Indian. Sources say an additional ₹2.5 crore was contributed through trusts associated with Shivakumar.

The Enforcement Directorate had previously questioned the brothers regarding these transactions. The latest notice from Delhi Police now seeks further clarification and requires Shivakumar to appear for an official inquiry.
