A Delhi court on Thursday granted interim bail to former JNU student and 2020 Delhi riots case accused Umar Khalid from December 16 to 29 to attend his sister’s wedding. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai granted the relief to Khalid. The court directed him to furnish a personal bond of ₹20,000 along with two sureties of the same amount.

The judge imposed several conditions, including a bar on the use of social media during the bail period. Khalid has been permitted to meet only his family members, relatives and friends, and must remain either at his home or at the venues of the wedding ceremonies mentioned in his application.

He has also been instructed not to contact any witness and to provide his mobile phone number to the investigating officer. The court said Khalid must surrender to prison authorities on the evening of December 29.

Khalid was granted interim bail last year to attend another wedding, and received similar relief in 2022.
