New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said 2025 had been a year marked by proud milestones for India. Citing Operation Sindoor, he said it became a source of national pride and demonstrated to the world that India does not compromise on its security.
Speaking during his monthly Mann Ki Baat address — the final one of 2025 — Modi said India’s presence and achievements were evident across sectors throughout the year.
“Whether in national security, sports, scientific progress, or on the world’s biggest platforms, 2025 was full of proud achievements for India,” he said.
The prime minister added that during Operation Sindoor, the nation witnessed powerful expressions of devotion to Maa Bharti (Mother India), with people across the country expressing gratitude in their own ways.
“Operation Sindoor became a symbol of pride for every Indian. The world clearly saw that today’s India does not compromise on its security,” he said.
India conducted precision strikes under Operation Sindoor on terror infrastructure in Pakistan on May 7, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. India and Pakistan later reached an understanding on May 10 to end the confrontation.
Modi said a similar spirit was seen when the national song Vande Mataram completed 150 years. He noted strong participation in the #VandeMataram150 campaign after he asked people to share messages and suggestions.
He highlighted that 2025 had been memorable for sports: the men’s cricket team won the ICC Champions Trophy, while the women’s cricket team secured its first-ever World Cup title. India’s women’s blind cricket team also created history by winning the Women’s Blind T20 World Cup.
The tricolour flew high after a dominant Asia Cup T20 win, and India’s para-athletes delivered a strong medal haul at the World Championships, he added. Modi also said India made major advances in science and space, noting that Shubhanshu Shukla became the first Indian to reach the International Space Station.
He said nations across the world now look toward India with great expectations, driven largely by the strength and potential of its youth, as well as progress in science, innovation, and technology.
Modi also said the number of cheetahs in India rose to more than 30 in 2025.
Reflecting on cultural and spiritual milestones, he said 2025 brought faith, heritage, and culture together — from the Prayagraj Mahakumbh at the start of the year to the Dhwajarohan ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya toward the end, both of which filled Indians with pride.
He added that enthusiasm for swadeshi was clearly visible, with people choosing products made in India.
“Today we can proudly say that 2025 has given India greater confidence,” he said, while acknowledging that the country also faced several natural disasters. He said India is ready to step into 2026 with fresh hope and new resolutions.
