Tonk: Police on Wednesday arrested two men after seizing a large consignment of explosive material from a car in Tonk district. Acting on a tip-off, the District Special Team intercepted the vehicle in the Baroni police station area and recovered around 150 kg of ammonium nitrate concealed in sacks of urea fertiliser, DSP Mrityunjay Mishra said.
The accused, identified as Surendra Patwa and Surendra Mochi, both residents of Bundi district, were allegedly transporting the material from Bundi to Tonk for supply, he said.
In addition to the ammonium nitrate, police seized 200 cartridges and six bundles of safety fuse wire measuring about 1,100 metres, PTI reported. The car used to transport the consignment was also seized.
Mishra said the operation was carried out swiftly based on specific intelligence inputs. Further investigation is under way to trace the source of the explosives, their intended use and any possible links.
Police are questioning the accused and probing whether the consignment was meant for illegal activities, including unauthorised mining, he added.
