Thiruvananthapuram: The indefinite auto-taxi strike, scheduled to start Tuesday midnight demanding the withdrawal of fuel price hike, has been postponed.
The decision came after talks between the state government and the representatives of labour unions here. The government told the unions that the issues raised would be resolved before August 20.
The major demands of the unions included withdrawal of the decision to enforce 15-year advance tax on taxi cars. They also sought reduction of the recently increased fees for various services at RT offices.
The unions said the legal metrology department had been imposing a fine of Rs 2,000 a day for delay in sealing auto-rickshaw fare meters. They said this was unfair and should be withdrawn.
The unions also sought the inclusion of all motor vehicle workers in the Motor Vehicle Workers Welfare Fund and an increase in their benefits.
