Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is yet to dismiss the policemen convicted in a custodial death case even though the special CBI court verdict on it came on July 25.

The law warrants immediate dismissal of government employees penalised for criminal cases. The service rules state that no government employee can continue to be in service for even a week. The police rules also insist ouster from service once a court convicts a government employee.

The state home department, under which the police come, maintains that it is yet to get a copy of the verdict that awarded death to two cops for the lockup death of a 28-year-old Thiruvananthpuram native 13 years ago.

Those awarded the death sentence are City Crime Branch Records Bureau ASI K Jithakumar and Narcotics Cell senior police officer S V Sreekumar. Besides, Crime Branch deputy superintendent T. Ajithkumar was served a three-year rigorous imprisonment, while another accused, EK Sabu, a former circle inspector, escaped punishment as he has retired. The third accused, Soman, died during the trial. He was an additional SI at the time of murder.
