Auto drivers return gold chain, electronic goods

Vizhinjam: The model conduct of two autorickshaw drivers in Thiruvananthapuram has been hailed by the public. While one promptly returned a gold chain, another helped a passenger get back his costly electronic devices.

Driver Sainulabdin returned a gold chain of 3.75 sovereigns that a woman passenger had lost in his vehicle. He had picked up the rider from Vizhinjam on Wednesday night and dropped her at Kottapuram around 8 pm. After the passenger left, he suddenly noticed a bag in the vehicle and on checking found the gold chain. Sainulabdin immediately told local resident and City Corporation councillor N A Rasheed. The councillor took him to sub-inspector Baiju Nair.

As the police were trying to trace the owner of the jewellery, one Selvarani of Kottapuram turned up with a complaint that she had lost a chain. The gold chain was handed over to her and she expressed her gratitude to the driver, the police and the councillor.

Meanwhile, another autorickshaw driver at the Thampanoor KSRTC prepaid stand returned a bag with electronic items that a passenger had forgotten in his vehicle. D. Baiju of Thempamuttom in Balaramapuram arrived at the Thamapanoor police station with the bag when he found it after a trip. It contained goods worth Rs 1.5 lakh. Among the items was an expensive camera.

The bag owner, Prashant S Nair who runs the GS Traders in Kochi, had forgotten the bag after he had kept it behind the passenger seat of the vehicle.

Nair had hailed the autorickshaw at Thamapanoor for a trip to Thaicaud. He lodged a complaint with Thampanoor police once he realised he had lost the bag. Baiju soon arrived at the station and handed over the bag which the police gave to Nair.
