Renowned mural painter KK Warrier dies
Warrier was an art teacher for 39 years.

Thrissur: Celebrated mural painter K K Warrier died at a private hospital on Monday. He was 84.

Warrier, whose contributions to mural painting have drawn much accolades, had in 1986 redone murals around the sanctum sanctorum of the famed Sree Krishna temple at Guruvayur, and recreated mural work on one side of the temple. He began his mural work at Guruvayur in 1979 by depicting the Rukmini Swayamvara tale at the Rukmini Kalyana Mandapam.

Warrier was an art teacher for 39 years. He was honoured by the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi thrice. Among the many other laurels are National Teachers' award, senior fellowship of the Central government, Janmashtami award, and Kalapraveen awards.

Warrier, who is the founder of the Indian School of Arts, Kochi, and the Chitrageham in Guruvayur, had revamped the mural paintings at nine temples.
