Kottayam: The education department of Kerala on Wednesday postponed the Onam exams scheduled to start on August 31.

The department decided to postpone the exams as many of the schools in the state are doubling up as relief camps after torrential downpour displaced over 60,000, said director of public instruction K V Mohankumar in an alert.

The revised schedule for the exam will be announced later.

Thursday holiday

Incessant rain lashing various parts of Kerala also prompted authorities to declare holiday in some districts and postpone examinations scheduled.

Educational institutions, including professional colleges and anganwadis, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikkode, Wayanad and Kannur will have holiday on Thursday.

Educational institutions in Ernakulam will have holiday on Thursday and Friday.

Varsities postpone exams

Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has postponed exams scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday (August 16-18).

Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur, has postponed all theory exams scheduled for Thursday and Friday (August 16, 17); no change to the time table of Practical exams. Revised dates of theory exams will be announced later.

Kannur University has postponed exams slated for Thursday (Aug 16).

The student union election in colleges affiliated to MG University has also been postponed. New dates will be declared later.

Calicut University has postponed all exams scheduled for Thursday and Friday (Aug 16, 17) following the IMD forecast of heavy to very heavy rain in the state. New date will be announced later.
