Kannur: The calibration aircraft belonging to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted five landings at Kannur airport and flew five hours above the area over two days as part of inspecting the Instrument Landing System (ILS) there.

The Beachcraft 350 aircraft flew at several altitudes above the airport and landed numerous times. After a takeoff at 9.30 am, the aircraft approached the runway again at 9.56 am and ensured the accuracy of the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI). At 10.23 am, the landing was done with the help of ILS on the Runway 25 in front of the fire station.

The calibration inspection was led by AAI assistant general manager L N Prasad. Instructions from the air traffic control were given by a team led by deputy general manager G Pradeep Kumar. Necessary backup was given by the communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) department who made suitable modifications in the various equipment installed at various spots in the airport based on instructions from the aircraft. 

With all the five landings carried out smoothly, the AAI team left Kannur at 11.36 am, for Bhopal. It will subsequently return to Delhi.
