Deluge further cripples life of poor disabled teen
Anoop,14, who suffers from muscular dystrophy patient, with his parents, K Arundas and Shilda.

Paravur: For teenaged Anoop K, the recent flood has served another cruel blow as the gushing waters swept away the wheelchair the 14-year-old has been using since the past seven years as a muscular dystrophy patient. The August deluge sunk everything in their modest dwelling located at Karimpadam near here in Ernakulam district.

Anoop, who cannot move any part of his body except the head, was three-and-a-half years old when his parents noticed the boy’s muscles weakening. He soon struggled to walk and was eventually completely bed-ridden by the age of seven.

His parents, K Arundas and Shilda, took him for advanced treatment at the Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences at Chalakka. Anoop later developed a heart problem and suffered from occasional bouts of epilepsy. Worse was in store as the three-wheeler in which he was taken to hospital last year met with an accident, fracturing both his legs. Steel rods had to be grafted into both legs.

Anoop lives in the unplastered house built of hollow bricks. Arundas is the sole breadwinner for the family that lives Shilda has to take care of their unwell second son round the clock.

The family can be reached at 98472 63413.
