Thiruvananthapuram: The educational panel on Tuesday decided to keep the no-frills Kalolsavam and sports meet as a three-day affair. The state school youth festival will be held at Alappuzha on December 7, 8 and 9 and the state sports meet will be organized in Thiruvananthapuram on October 26, 27 and 28.
Earlier, the state government had plans to shelve the youth festival and sports meet as Kerala is reeling under the impact of August deluge, which killed over 400 people and left a trail of destruction in several districts. However, the government later decided to conduct the events without any frills and on a reduced budget.
The youth festival, originally planned for five days, will feature only stage competitions at the state level. The decisions were taken at a meeting of the monitoring committee convened by secretary of general education A Shajahan.
The proposals will be submitted to the government for a final call.
Exam in Dec second week
The half yearly examinations will be held during the second week of December. Term examinations will not be held this year. All schools have to conduct class tests before October 15.
In the school youth festival, competitions in literary and non-stage events like story writing, poetry writing, painting, water colour, oil painting, pencil drawing, cartoon and collage will be held at the district level on the same topic the same day. The entries which secure first prize with A-grade will be evaluated at the state level and grades decided.
The school level competitions will take place from October 1 to 13 and sub-district events from October 20 to November 3. The district competitions are to be organized from November 12 to 24. The sub-district events will be completed in one day and district competitions in two days.
Competitions for LP and UP students will be confined to the school level. At the events, inaugural and valedictory functions will be avoided. Moreover, processions will not be held. Wherever possible, Kudumbasree units will be entrusted with the task of providing food.
The state special school festival has been scheduled at Kollam on October 26, 27 and 28. The state school science festival will be held at Kannur on November 25 and 26.
The school sports meet will be held at Thiruvananthapuram and games events will not be organized at state level. Only two entries will be allowed from each district at the state sports meet.
