Kumali: KG Thara, former head of the State Institute for Land and Disaster Management Center, Thiruvananthapuram, was bitten by a rabid dog here on Thursday. She had reached Kumili on Sunday morning for a panel discussion on 'The lessons the flood taught' organized by the Forest Department at Periyar Wildlife Reserve. Dr Thara was on a visit to the new waste management plant installed by the Kumili panchayath when she was attacked by the dog, in front of the Forest Department information bureau.

She was rushed to a local dispensary where she received her first anti-rabies injection. She was later taken home in a Forest Department vehicle. Reportedly, the dog had bitten a cow in Kumili town on Monday.
