Ousted varsity student tries to kill self

Kasaragod: A teenager sought to kill himself on the campus of the Central University of Kerala here on Tuesday. The first-year undergraduate was reportedly perturbed over being rusticated from here as three months ago.
Akhil Thayath, a native of Thrissur, cut a vein of his hand and was rushed to hospital, where doctors said he was out of danger.
Authorities have found a ‘suicide note’ apparently left by the boy, blaming the varsity’s vice-chancellor and his deputy, PVC, for the act.
It all began around 8 am when Akhil sought to commit suicide near the helipad of the 2009-founded varsity at Periya. Students playing games nearbt took him to the district hospital at Kanjangad, 10 km south.
The ex-student was protesting against his July ouster that ostensibly came as a punitive action from the varsity for his insulting authorities on social media. Akhil, who was doing BA in International Relations, had maintained innocence, claiming that his Facebook post never mentioned anyone’s name. He had expressed concern overof his g non-redressal rievance, adding that the punishment prevented him from giving exams coming up in November.
On Monday, pro-Left Students Federation of India had observed a stir against the varsity's action and demanded taking back Akhil. After the incident, the students relaunched the strike Tuesday.
