Kannur: It is everyone's shared responsibility to secure the cyberspace in an increasingly interconnected world, K Sanjay Kumar IPS, Commandant, KAP 4th Battalion, has said.
Handling a special seminar-cum-training on 'Future crimes and online safety and the role of police in this connected world,' at Luxotica Auditorium, Mangattuparamba, here recently he said, "creating awareness and honing the investigation skills of police personnel are essential because today even the traditional crimes have a cyber angle to it.”
The session was attended by 650 personnel, including new recruits, members of the Vanitha battalion, and those from the Kannur district police. The focus was on exposing personnel to modern white-collar cybercrimes and to explain various investigation techniques to them.
Topics such as cyber fraud, phishing, online abuse of children, hacking, personal data privacy-related cases, cyber warfare and online radicalization were discussed. Special focus was given on fake news and effective response to it.
“For the first time, I realized how connected and vulnerable we are to cybercrimes. Though we did not get practical experience of investigating cybercrimes, the session exposed us to various approaches to investigation. We are keen to learn more on cybercrimes," said Risna, an officer from the women battalion.
