Kollam Thulasi says rip apart women entering Sabarimala, police file case

Thiruvananthapuram: Noted Malayalam actor Kollam Thulasi is the latest to court controversy over the protests over the Sabarimala verdict. The Kerala police have filed a case against him for stating that the women who dare to visit Sabarimala temple should be torn apart.

Thulasi made the remarks while speaking at a ‘Sabarimala protection’ rally at Chavara in Kollam district on Friday. Thulasi’s controversial remarks have sparked anger among the public with many slamming the actor.

“...some women will come there (the Sabarimala temple). They should be torn into two pieces. The one half should be sent to Delhi and the other to the chief minister of Kerala,” Thulasi fumed.

Addressing the women who took part in the protest meeting, Thulasi remarked that he knew they wouldn’t visit the Sabarimala temple as they were educated and culturally awakened. He even appealed that their voice should be heard in Delhi. The actor even allegedly called the Supreme Court judges who passed the historic judgment, lifting the ban on women’s entry, as ‘idiots’.

BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai was with him on the stage. The actor is a BJP activist and had contested the 2016 assembly elections from the Kundara constituency.

Apologises

He later expressed regret over making the statement. During a Manorama News programme, he even apologised. However, he said he did not make any comments against the SC judges and those remarks were misconstrued.

The Kerala women's commission has taken a suo motu case over the incident.
