Now, Balabhaskar's wife contradicts driver Arjun's claim

Balabhaskar accident: Wife Lakshmi's statements create confusion

Thiruvananthapuram: The police have recorded the statement of Lakshmi, wife of violinist Balabhasker who had died in an accident last month. In the accident that claimed the life of Balabhasker and their two-year-old daughter Tejaswini, only Lakshmi and their driver Arjun survived. Lakshmi was discharged from the hospital on Monday.

Incidentally Lakshmi's statement contradicts with the one given by Arjun. Lakshmi revealed that it was Arjun and not Balabhaskar who drove the car. The police would now investigate the contradictory statements recorded by Lakshmi and Arjun.

Arjun had earlier stated that Balabhaskar was behind the wheels while he was resting in the back seat.

To confirm the statements of both parties, the investigating officers would also record the statements of the people in the locality where the accident took place and those who rushed the passengers in the car to the hospital.

Lakshmi had recorded her statement with the Attingal DySp. She reportedly told the officer that Balabhaskar was sitting in the back seat of the car, while she was in the rear seat carrying Tejaswini in her hands. Lakshmi stressed that Balabhaskar never used to drive during long trips, and it was Arjun who drove the car.

However, Arjun, while recuperating at his home in Thrissur had said that he drove the car from Thrissur until Kollam, and that Balabhaskar had taken over the wheels from there. He told that Lakshmi was in the front seat with Tejaswini, while he was resting in the backseat. Arjun didn’t incur serious injuries in the accident.

The fatal accident happened in the national highway near the Pallipuram CRPF camp junction on the wee hours on September 25.

The car, which lost control, rammed a tree on the road side. Tejaswini was declared brought dead by the doctors though she was rushed to the nearby hospital. Balabhasker who suffered serious injuries in his brain and spinal cord had undergone two surgeries. However, the musician succumbed a week after the accident took place.

The police were able to record Arjun’s statement a few days after the accident. However, they weren’t able to record the statements of Lakshmi, who was admitted in the hospital after suffering serious injuries, until now.
