Kuwait City/Kottayam: “Today we live to share our experience by the grace of a Kuwaiti man,” says Terrance Mathupuram, a Keralite expatriate in Kuwait, who was rescued by a local resident during the devastating floods in the country recently.

Terrance and his family had almost given up hope after being trapped inside a taxi car which was stuck in mud on a flooded road. They cried out and tried to wave down passing vehicles, but nobody extended a helping hand. Though one person stopped his vehicle, he sped away when Terrance pleaded for help. However, he returned after a while and offered an apology. He asked them to get into his car and drove through flooded roads, unmindful of his own safety, and got them home safely.

“Me, wife Priya and our one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Heysel were returning home after shopping. We hired a cab to go to Souk Sabah where we reside. The driver maneuvered the car carefully, but it was becoming difficult to move on as the road was flooding fast. Suddenly, the vehicle got trapped on the mud-covered stretch,” Terrance, a native of Thrikkodithanam near Changanassery, said, narrating the ordeal they endured.

“The man who came to our rescue even told us that we could stay at his home if our area was cut off by flash floods. My only regret is that it did not occur to me to ask his name or other details at that hour. We are looking forward to meet him and thank him for his magnanimity,” Terrance, who works as a paramedical staff at a private clinic in Kuwait City, added.
