Stones, eggs hurled at K T Jaleel's vehicle

Malappuram: Kerala Higher Education and Minority Affairs Minister K T Jaleel on Friday faced black flags in Tirur. Stones and eggs were hurled at his vehicle too.

Two policemen were injured. Five workers of the Muslim Students Federation have been arrested for showing black flags to Jaleel. They rushed on to the stage as the minister was delivering his speech.

Jaleel, plagued by nepotism charges, had arrived in Tirur to attend the inauguration of the Kerala History Conference at the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.

Jaleel is the second minister of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government being caught in nepotism row. In October 2016, just five months after coming to power, then industries minister E P Jayarajan had to resign on a similar charge. However, Jayarajan was reinstated as a minister in August this year after the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau, which probed the case, absolved him of the charges.
