Kerala student dies of illness in Sharjah

Sharjah: A 6-year-old Kerala student, Shiba Fathima, died due to complications related to hepatitis and sepsis in Sharjah, the media reported on Thursday.

She was a second standard student of Gulf Asian School. Her parents are from Kannur.

School principal Nasreen Banu said: "She fell ill two days ago and stopped coming to school. She was under treatment by a local doctor but was admitted to a hospital on Tuesday morning when her condition deteriorated."

Fathima passed away later that day and was buried on Wednesday. Hospital officials listed sepsis, hepatitis and acute gastroenteritis as the causes of her death.

A 12th grade student at the Indian High School, Alia Niyaz Ali, had died of flu two weeks ago. A 9-year-old Indian girl of Our Own Indian High School died after suffering from flu-related complications on October 29.
