Auto, taxi rates to be hiked in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has decided to increase the fares of autorickshaws and taxis. As per the new tariff, minimum charge for autorickshaws has been hiked to Rs 25 from Rs 20. Minimum charge for taxis has been hiked to Rs 175 from Rs 150.

The state cabinet has given nod for the hike. The decision will be announced in the state assembly on Thursday. An official announcement will be made after the assembly session.

The new rates were fixed based on a recommendation submitted by the Justice M Ramachandran commission which was appointed in the wake of the rise in fuel prices.

The commission had recommended that minimum charge of autorickshaws be fixed at Rs 30 and taxis at Rs 200.
