Kottayam: A 53-year-old Keralite, working in Congo for the past five years, has been jailed in the African country, relatives back home have received information. Babu was allowed to talk to his relatives back home here during the initial days of the imprisonment, but they have not heard from him for the last several days. It is not known what led to the arrest.

Babu Jose, who hails from Kanakkary in Kottayam town, has been arrested and jailed by the Congo administration. He was working for a company that distributes food to various countries as part of a United Nations mission.

The Indian Embassy in Congo is reportedly looking into the issue.

Babu was arrested even as the Monocao-based Esco International - his employer of 25 years - was all set to end its functioning in the central African country.
