Kozhikode: A girl, who claimed to have undergone a sex reassignment surgery to live with another girl, alleged that she was ditched by her lover and threatened by her relatives for 'unnecessarily dragging her into problems'. Archana Raj (23), from Peruvannamuzhi in rural Kozhikode, met the other girl while working in a private company here.
She said at a press conference at Calicut Press Club on Monday that though they worked in two different branches, they got acquainted during a company meeting and developed a deep friendship. Archana had married in April this year and soon got separated due to "differences of opinion" with husband. Meanwhile, the other girl also received marriage proposals and an alliance was fixed, with the engagement scheduled to be held in November.
“She insisted that she wanted to live with me and threatened to commit suicide if I do not accept her as partner. Our relationship also got stronger. We started thinking of a surgery for sex change. She said she would not look good as a man, and so wanted me to undergo the surgery. I did not reveal our plans to anyone at home except to my father's younger brother. He supported me, and also came with me to a hospital in Chennai,” said Archana, who is Deepu R Darsan now.
Deepu said that he could not contact the girl after the surgery in October. So he contacted the girl's fiance. To the fiance, the girl said that only Deepu was interested in her and that she had never reciprocated the love. This prompted the fiance also to threaten Deepu, and he approached the police. At the police station, the girl rejected Deepu's claims. Police also called them for a conciliation talk, outside the station.
During the ten minutes that he got to spend with the girl alone, Deepu claimed that the girl said that she was blackmailed by her family. She told him that her family had told her that they would end their lives if she went with Deepu. He also said that the girl's relatives had spread lies about him at his native and called him mentally unstable. He later filed a habeas corpus petition at the High Court thinking that the girl would change her stand once she gets freedom to speak inside the court.
However, to his shock, he said he was again rejected by the girl and he realised that he was cheated. Deepu said that he was not a lesbian, and changed sex only to live with that girl. But after the surgery, he prefers to continue as a man only and wanted to tell the world about the betrayal and how he is being branded as an insane. He spent more than Rs 2 lakh for the surgery and has now given request for a name change in the gazette.
