Phone tapping started when Kodiyeri was home minister: Senkumar

Thiruvananthapuram: It seems there is no let up in the acrimony between former DGP T P Senkumar and his opponents in the ruling party. Firing a fresh salvo, Senkumar claimed tapping of phones commenced in Kerala when Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was the home minister.

“However, it was not me who was the DGP at that time, but Jacob Punnoose,” Senkumar stated on Friday.

Kodiyeri is now the general secretary of the CPM's Kerala unit.

Touching upon his fight with the establishment, Senkumar, who is identified with the right-wing forces, said he is being targeted over his political affiliations. “Several baseless allegations are being raised against me now,” he added while addressing a leadership meet organised by the BJP in the state capital.

The former state police chief claimed he was facing a certain kind of discrimination now after taking part in a Seva Bharati programme. “Such an attitude towards me did not exist earlier when I took the stage at several events,” he explained. “If demanding to know about the truth would make a person a Sangh Parivar activist, everyone will become just that.”

“Seva Bharati is a humanitarian organisation and they can expect my participation in more events,” he added.

Referring to the national political scenario, Senkumar commented that if India has to prosper, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should continue in power not only after the 2019 elections but also after 2024.

BJP leader H Raja and state chief P S Sreedharan Pillai were among those who attended the event.
