Kerala govt's call, not Centre's, on Senkumar’s posting in admin tribunal
Former DGP T P Senkumar

Kochi: It is for the Kerala government to take a decision on former DGP T P Senkumar’s application for a position on the Kerala Administrative Tribunal (KAT), according to the central government. The Centre made its stand clear on the issue before the Kerala High Court.

“The Centre has a limited say on the appointment of Senkumar. The state government is delaying the matter. The Centre is yet to receive any communication from the state on Senkumar,” said the affidavit submitted on behalf of the Union government on Friday.

Senkumar had filed a petition before the High Court alleging that his appointment was being delayed deliberately.

The state had earlier raised objections to the application submitted to the Centre seeking a posting for Senkumar in the KAT. According to the report of the state, Senkumar was facing litigation, including criminal cases. Though the Supreme Court Chief Justice had sought details of the cases, the state is yet to file a reply. This matter too was mentioned by the Centre in its statement to the High Court.

Earlier, in November last, the state government had filed a report before the High Court which said that the defamation case filed by former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan in which Senkumar is one of the respondents was being considered by a sub-court.

Senkumar is the 7th respondent in the case at Thiruvananthapuram sub-court. According to Nambi Narayanan, Senkumar had harassed him by seeking a re-investigation into the ISRO spy case without sufficient evidence. It was alleged that a false report had been filed by the petitioner in the spy case based on which the magistrate ordered a re-probe. Moreover, fake news was conveyed to newspapers damaging his reputation, alleged Nambi Narayanan.
