Science talents to vie at Manorama-IBS Yuva Mastermind contest

Several science talents are heading to Kochi with a clutch of inventions and ideas useful in daily life. They are set to contest in the the grand finale of the Season 9 of the 'Manorama-IBS Yuva Mastermind’ in Kochi. It will be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium (Regional Sports Centre), Kadavanthra, on January 19 and 20.

Sixty projects are vying in the final round of the competition for school, college and general category. They include utility inventions such as mops capable of locating hidden crawlies while cleaning the floor and advanced kitchen equipment. Other projects include that of artificial intelligence for translating sign language and technology to extract fresh water from seawater.

An exhibition of the science projects selected for the final round will be held on the first day of the popular event. It will be free of charge for visitors from 9.30am to 6pm. Schools, colleges and other institutions can book the visiting hours in advance. Exciting competitions await visitors too.

The prizes will be distributed on the last day. Dr K Sivan, the Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation, will be the chief guest the function starting at 10.30am. He will interact with the students as part of the ‘Samvad with students’ programme of the space agency. Dr Sivan will share his visions on India’s space exploration programmes and other ventures of the future. The students selected for the ‘Yuva Mastermind’ finale will participate in the interaction.

The ‘Yuva Mastermind’ distributes prizes worth Rs 10 lakh including the financial assistance for the projects. Reputed IT company IBS is the sponsor. Technical assistance is rendered by the Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally.
