Sex racket victim from Vithura says her ordeal lasted for a year

Kottayam: A victim of an infamous sex racket told a court that she was detained and brutally raped by many men for about a year. The woman from Vithura said that the main accused, Suresh, took her to various places, raped her and let others rape her between October 21, 1995 and July 10, 1996.

She was freed only after the police arrested her along with several others from a house at Kadavanthra in Kochi on July 23, 1996. The house belonged to another accused, Sunny.

When she was released on bail after seven days, her breakdown was so severe that she could not even identify her father among the people who waited for her, she testified before the court on Thursday.

The woman will be cross-examined by the defence on February 8.

The woman also accused Suresh of intimidating her, following which the prosecution urged the court to cancel his bail. The written plea and the woman’s affidavit will be considered by the court on Friday.

The minor girl was lured with a job offer by a woman, Ajitha, who handed her over to Suresh. The girl was raped at various places between November 1995 and May 1996. As many as 23 different cases were registered and Suresh was named accused in all the cases. Ajitha later died.
