Khadi board ignores Mohanlal's defamation suit warning

Thiruvananthapuram: The Khadi and Village Industries Board in Kerala has decided to ignore a legal notice sent by actor Mohanlal who threatened to slap a Rs 50 crore defamation suit on the board. The board management told Onmanorama that they would wait and watch the actor's course of action.

The board had sent a notice to a private apparel firm which shot an ad featuring Mohanlal on a handloom.

The board said that the ad was misleading since the private firm sold garments made on powerlooms. The board also sent a letter to the actor to request him to withdraw the endorsement.

Mohanlal, however, alleged that the board management has gone public with the accusation to cash in on his fame. He sought a public apology from the board if he were not to pursue the legal suit.

The private firm has withdrawn the ad after the controversy erupted.
