Kozhikode: The number of cases charged in connection with poll-related violence in the state rose to 347 as on Thursday, state police chief Loknath Behera informed.

However, the DGP stated in a press release that the number of cases almost halved compared with the 2016 Assembly elections, when 613 cases were registered in election-related violence.

The maximum number of cases were registered in Kannur district - where the highest voter turn out was also registered - 79 cases.

During the 2016 Assembly elections also, the maximum number of cases were registered from Kannur district – 86.

The number of cases registered in Malappuram was 66, down from 87 in 2016.

Kottayam came in the bottom of the list with just two cases, down steeply from 39 in 2016.

The maximum number of cases were registered against the LDF workers this time – 119 while 66 cases were slapped against UDF workers.

As many as 80 cases have been registered against NDA workers in the state.
