KSRTC earns record Rs 189.84 crore in April

Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC has earned a record income of Rs 189.84 crore amid adversities in April. It was 168 cr in February and 183cr in March. KSRTC had earned 189.71 cr in January because of Sabarimala season.

The increase in efficiency has occurred on account of increasing the intervals between two bus services. Managing Director MP Dinesh said executive directors and unit officers’ effective supervision helped the carrier. The revenue targets set for depots and inspectors also aided the task.

MD’s tenure extended

Meanwhile, the permission for extending Managing Director MP Dinesh’s term has been approved by the government. The file signed by the chief minister and transport minister has been handed to an expert panel for approval. The police DIG is set to retire on May 31. Dinesh was promised extension when he was made MD. He had sent a request recently to this effect.

Renting buses

The KSRTC has invited contracts to rent out 50 multi-axle buses for services to Bangalore and other adjacent cities outside state. Two drivers have to be provided along with the vehicle. Applications are open until May 7. The tenders will be opened on May 9.

LAPT licenses will be taken in KSRTC’s name. Karnataka too will run similar services to Kerala. The government believes it can challenge private bus operators thus bring down prices. The recent assault which took place in Kallada bus had unveiled the free reign of inter-state private bus operators in Kerala without necessary documents.

The Motor Vehicles Department had led a crack-down operation against private buses only to discover the spurious activities of the private buses and their respective offices.
