Thiruvananthapuram: The south-west monsoon would reach the Kerala shores on Saturday and the rain would intensify from Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Thrissur on June 10, and for Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts on June 11 as these regions would be witnessing heavy to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert was issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts that would see widespread rain on Saturday.
The state disaster management authority has asked government departments to make preparations and to start control rooms at taluk-level.
The IMD has also asked the fishermen not to venture out for fishing in Lakshadweep, south-east Arabian sea, Gulf of Mannar, and south-western Arabian sea.
On June 9, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts would receive heavy rain.
Heavy rain is likely in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts on June 10.
On June 11, heavy rain is predicted for Kollam, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.
Depression too
A depression was likely to be formed in the Arabian Sea off the Kerala-Karnataka coastline in the coming days, the weatherman has warned.
Even if the depression intensified to form a cyclone, it was most likely to head towards the Oman coast and that there was no threat for Kerala, it was noted.
However, Kerala would witness more heavy rain.
