The Season – 2 of Blog It Onmanorama Contest drew attracting ideas, inspiring views and words of wisdom from hundreds of college students from premier institutions.
Out of the entries we received, Athira Elssa Johnson, a political science student of Sree Keralavarma College, Thrissur was adjudged the winner. Darshana Suresh from National Institute of Technology, Kozhikode, and Jerry George from St Berchmans College, Changanassery, bagged the first and second runners-up prizes.
All the three will get a hard copy of the Manorama Year Book with online subscription coupons.
The contest, which drew lakhs of people to our site, at once opened an avenue of expression for the bloggers and turned out to be a learning experience for Onmanorama.
The judges were unanimous in their opinion on Athira. Her thought-provoking entry 'An MDR-TB Battleground' emerged the clear winner for its earnest and truthful portrayal of an MDR-TB patient's world perceived by her. Her blog 'Zephyr' throws new light on people suffering from TB and posts articles regularly.
Darshana's passionate writing on women being denied their freedom and Jerry's description of the emotions associated with letter-writing the old school way were class apart.
The topics chosen by the contestants were varied and interesting. The entries covered teenage issues, feminism, anxiety, travel, cooking, gender discrimination, to list a few. Unlike Season – 1 of the contest, which comprised 90 per cent women bloggers, this edition saw more gender neutrality in participation.
